6med Help Centre
Do you have any doubts? Here are the answers!
Bookings
We’ve run our BMAT, UCAT and Interview courses at a few schools over the years, so we can definitely help!
The prices for schools are basically the same as they are for normal students, although of course, schools can get VAT refunds, so would effectively save 20%.
If you’d like us to get in touch about running a course in your school please fill in the form here (if you’re a student, you’ll need to talk to a teacher and ask them to fill in the form, as we can’t use details which are passed on to us by another person – it’s a data protection thing).
Check out more information on our school courses page here!
You can transfer registration to someone else up until the day before the course – so if you can’t make it to the session but know someone who can then let us know here.
When you book a course with us, our system should automatically send an order confirmation email to the billing email address (not the student email address). If you can’t find your order confirmation email, please first wait a few minutes and then check your junk inbox because sometimes our emails can end up in there.
If you still can’t find the order confirmation, then either something weird happened on our email server, or you might have made a typo when entering the email address (over the past 5 years, we’ve found that both these scenarios are equally common). If that’s the case just fill in your details here, and we’ll get back to you to confirm everything’s okay!
Last minute bookings…
If you’ve booked a course last-minute and are having issues finding the confirmation email, then please don’t worry. Just email us at [email protected] and we will give you the details you need provided you can show it was you who made the booking!
You’ll be taught by an instructor (or two!) from our instructor team, who have been hand-picked from a pool of hundreds of applicants from the top medical schools. Each will have had extensive teaching experience and high-scorers themselves in the UCAT or the BMAT.
More importantly, all our instructors know their stuff, are fun and friendly, and will be skilled at working the class interactively – making the whole process painless and much more enjoyable.
Crash Course instructions are scheduled to be emailed out the week before and the day before your course date. Make sure to keep an eye on your spam and junk folders in case the emails end up there. Please note that course instructions are sent to the billing email address.
If you still haven’t received your course instructions, please get in touch with us at [email protected] or complete the following form.
Yes!
At 6med, we’re 100% committed to our goal of widening access to Medicine by levelling the playing field that’s been warped by corporations charging extortionate fees for their courses, and by “elite” schools giving their students help that others couldn’t even dream of.
We don’t want money to be a barrier to entry into Medicine, and while we’ve priced our courses significantly lower than our competitors, we understand that the price might still be too high for some students. That’s why we offer an unlimited number of bursaries to students for whom entry into Medicine is a realistic prospect but who, for whatever reason, would find it difficult to attend our courses on financial grounds.
Check out more information on our bursaries page here!
All the information you need is on this page of our website!
Please note – the application form will be switched off on September 24th 2021 and applications will not be accepted after this date.
It can take upto 2 weeks to hear back from us regarding the success of your bursary application, particularly at busy times of year. We suggest you apply early, as we try to work as quickly as possible, but we can’t rush applications even if it is very close to your test date.
If you haven’t heard from us after this time it would be a good idea to check your spam or junk folders as sometimes emails can end up there!
If you still can’t find an email from us (and it’s been more than 2 weeks since you applied) you can fill in the form here to request a progress update. Please note: if you request a progress update less than 2 weeks after your application was submitted we won’t be able to respond and it slows down the whole process!
We try and give everyone as much time as possible to apply for one of our courses or bursaries, however planning and running the courses takes some time and we also have our own work at medical school to think about!
For this reason, we close applications for bursaries at the start of September every year, as if we left it later than this we might not get time to process all of them with enough time left before your UCAT or BMAT. The deadline in 2021 is Friday the 24th – we can’t accept any bursary applications after this date.
Check out more information on our bursaries page here!
All bursary applications are reviewed on a case by case basis. Please see here for more information about who is eligible.
We will book you onto the relevant Crash Courses, so you should receive a couple of emails containing links to download your ebooks and invitations to our online course. As for your BMAT/UCAT Ninja subscription (if applicable), if you didn’t already have an account, you will be emailed login details within 24 hours, if you did have an account that account will be simply upgraded – again this can take up to 24 hours.
Please make sure to check your spam and junk folders as sometimes our emails end up there by accident!
Crash Course FAQs
Glad you asked! We certainly think it is, though our opinion is probably slightly biased.
If you want a more impartial opinion, we can tell you that we give a feedback form to students at the end of each course, and in 3 years of teaching BMAT, every single student has answered ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Would you be inclined to recommend the course to a friend?’ We’ve also got a tonne of reviews that you can read on our reviews page.
Check out more information on our crash courses page here!
We do not have any details at the moment.
You’ll be given your course instructor’s details before the course in case you have any ‘on-the-day’ enquries, eg. if you’re lost or you’re going to be late.
Our instructors are all busy medical students though, so please contact us with any general enquiries you have!
The discount codes are generated automatically or given to you on the day of the course in your Crash Course book, and unfortunately cannot be sent out prior to the course.
The short answer – no.
The long answer – you have very little to lose, and a lot to gain by attending. Our courses have been incredibly helpful for a large number of students in the past few years, and that’s because we know exactly where people fall down and make mistakes in the UCAT. Importantly, we’ve done all the hard work of comparing and creating the best strategies using a wide array of resources so that you don’t have to. Just so you know, all our content is continuously peer-reviewed and updated every year. You won’t go away with a guaranteed high score in the bag, but you will absolutely go home much better prepared, equipped with a new set of effective strategies, and more confident. You can trust that we know what we’re doing.
As an example, for our UCAT course leaders, all of us have received high scores on the UCAT (725+), been extensively trained to teach UCAT, and have a passion for teaching.
Check out more information on our crash courses page here!
You should have received an instruction email about a week before the course, which includes all of the instructions for when and where you need to go – it’s often worth checking your junk or spam filters just in case it’s landed there. The email also has the mobile numbers of your instructor/s and you can get in touch with them directly if you’re not sure how to get there on the day.
If you’re really stuck on the day – or if you’ve booked less than 3 working days before the course – please ‘request course instructions’ here and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Medical School Interview
Writing a personal statement is one of the most daunting bits of the application process because it’s nothing like anything you’ve done before!
To help with this we offer a personal statement feedback service which you can find all the instructions and booking details for here. We’ll get feedback back to you in 3-5 days.
We know that essay writing can be a bit of a shock – particularly if you’re only doing science-y A-levels!
We’re happy to give feedback on your BMAT section 3 essay (or any other medical essay for that matter!) – this is all via our essay marking service which you can book here. We’ll get feedback back to you in 3-5 days.
You can also find a range of example essays to help you figure out what you might like to write about, right here on the help centre!
We get contacted by a lot of access to medicine societies every year! We’re always really pleased to hear about other people trying to achieve the same aims we have and prevent money being a barrier to entry onto medical degrees.
In the interests of fairness, with so many societies and events looking for sponsorship, we made the decision to only reinvest in our own bursary funds and charitable initiatives and make sure that anyone who needs to can access our resources and courses.
We didn’t plan to offer any private tuition initially, on the grounds that it would go against our company ethos of levelling the playing field and removing the question of money from the applications process. However, we were contacted by several students over the year who felt they learn best in a one-to-one setting, and so we’ve partnered up with a company who offer a private coaching option.
Our standard rate for private tuition is about £125/hour (or £95/hour if done over Skype), which is admittedly pretty steep. There’s nothing that we cover in our private sessions that isn’t already covered in the one-day Crash Course, so the only students that tend to find benefit in our private sessions are the ones who, for whatever reason, find it significantly harder to teach the content to themselves.
What we always suggest is for students to attend our course, study the material in depth themselves afterwards, and if they’re still struggling, then we’re happy to provide the additional help. If you’re interested, please contact us here and we’ll try and work something out with you.
Consent is a crucial theme in modern day practice. Put simply, for a patient to consent to treatment they must give permission before they receive any type of medical treatment, test or examination [1]. Guidance for consent has been informed by high profile legal cases. One prominent example is the case at Bellshill Maternity Hospital, where a diabetic lady who was not aware of all the potential risks of a natural birth, had a complication in pregnancy that led to her baby being deprived of oxygen for a short duration, causing brain damage [2].
There are three key ideas that underpin the notion of consent. The patient’s consent must be voluntary, meaning the decision to give or not to give consent is made by the patient. The patient must be informed, where they are presented with relevant information to make the decision. Finally, the patient must have capacity- the ability to understand the information given to them and use it to make a decision.
For a patient’s consent to be voluntary, the doctor must not make the decision for them. So, even if the doctor does not agree with the patient’s wishes, as long as the patient is informed and has capacity, the doctor must respect the wishes of the patient even if they feel it’s unwise. This idea is relevant in circumstances such as when a Jehovah’s Witness refuses a blood transfusion.
It is the responsibility of the doctor to ensure the patient is informed with what they want to and need to know about their treatment. This usually entails telling the patient about the treatment options open to them, the nature of the risks associated with each treatment and what might happen if they do not accept any treatment. In order to do this to the appropriate standard, the doctor must give information in a balance way, avoiding bias. It is also important for the doctor to convey information in a way that the patient finds it easy to understand. For example, when communicating concepts such as risk associated to a treatment, some patients may want a risk in percentage to help them make a decision.
It’s worth noting that everyone is presumed to have capacity to make decisions unless it can be proved that they do not. When assessing the capacity of a patient, the doctor must determine if they have an impairment affecting the function of their mind. If they do, the physician must consider if the impairment if sufficient enough for the patient to lack capacity [3]. In other words, have they understood the information, can they retain it, weigh up the pros and cons and then communicate their decision. The patient must be able to do all of these.
The format of consent will vary depending on the patient and the treatment. Signed, written consent from patient is necessary if a treatment involves a significant risk. A prime example of this would be an operation [4]. In other situations (such as administering an injection) verbal sufficient is suitable. However, a signed consent form will never be proof that you have given the patient all the information they need to make an informed decision. It is therefore necessary to record discussions of treatments.
Involving patients in discussions about their care should always be done as much as possible, even when the patient is a child/young adult and not an adult. A young person’s ability to make decisions will depend on their ability to understand and weigh up treatment options rather than their exact age. As such, a fourteen year old may have capacity to make a decision. At sixteen, a person is presumed to have capacity to make decisions about their treatment [5].
Adhering to guidelines on consent is a cornerstone of good practice as a doctor. Treatments and the demands of patients may change, but putting the patient at the heart of the decision making process and ensuring they have the information needed to do this will not.

As long as you requested the refund 14 days before the course, we guarantee that it will be processed and the money will be back in your account within a few working days
More than 14 days before the course…
Our refund policy (stated on all the registration pages) is that we can give you a full refund if you let us know at least 14 days before the course you’re registered to attend. See ‘How do I get a refund?’ to do this.
You will be refunded the value of the Crash Course itself, but not the value of the Workbook as they are an e-resource.
Less than 14 days before the course…

If it’s less than 3 working days before the course we’ve already done all the prep for you being there and unfortunately can’t process the amendments in time even if you want to pay the admin fee.

We’re really sorry to hear that your card has been declined- sometimes it happens on online platforms. The first thing you should do is contact your bank- we find that international banks get a bit twitchy when you are trying to make an online payment that’s in a foreign currency.
If your bank solves the issue, or says there’s no issue, please log into your Ninja account and check that your card details on your account are still valid.
